Welcome to Mirissa
Mirissa is a small town and a fishing port with a beautiful beach and excellent surf points located on the Southern tip of Sri Lanka. Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka and your most likely entry point onto the Island is about 150 km North West. Mirissa is sandwiched between the towns of Welligama and Matara and about 35 KM or 1 hour south of the port city of Galle by bus.

There are many water activities available. A two hour sail boat ride in the bay for a minimal amount of money. The views were amazing and the staff was professional and informative. Streets of this small market town can be fun. Take a stroll along the sea front and watch the fishermen dragging their boats up on shore or selling their fish in their small shops. Some small internet shops and buys small local items ideal for gifts.

You will see people haggling and arguing over the price of some of the strangest or most valuable seafood creatures available in this region. Bring a camera to capture the mayhem but be careful where you point it. It's a place of intense business and the locals are not there to pose for the tourists.

Many people grab a cool beer, bring restaurant chairs out onto the sand and sit and watch in awe at the array of colours as the sun sets behind the Coconut trees on the hill. Unlike the beaches further along the coast, the shoreline of Mirissa gracefully slides into the ocean and there is no shelving making it a great place to bring kids and to leave them alone without too much worry. You can walk out into the water for about 20 meters before the water becomes waist deep. Each evening at sunset Mother nature offers you something different, one night the sunset could be fiery red and then the next it can the most beautiful pastel pink.
